Recollections of Monaco

As is the tradition, first practice takes place at Monaco on the Thursday. Friday is a free day for spectators and you can wonder around any part of the circuit quite freely. They used to have the F3 race on the Friday, I'm assuming that the GP2 races are held no winstead.

"Owners" of the teams "Ixopo Racing", "The Fly" and "Team RAT" were there on a wet Friday and duely wandered around the circuit, we also witnessed Senna put in that brilliant lap during qualifying on the Saturday in the early nineties, a lap which has passed into F1 folklore, mesmerising, dancing, on the edge, perfection ... - well worth getting hold of the in car footage if you can. Part of it is on the DVD/Video "Racing is in my Blood" if you are interested.

Also passed into folklore on that qualifying Saturday was when "Sakkie" (our other traveling partner) and myself sent Brad and Thirston off to get some water while we kept our place on the Secteur Rocher (the cheapest and furtherest position from the track...) - they came back with caraffes of wine instead (cheaper than the water apparently...) and that really is the story of the aimless wandering's through late summer in Europe...

Another note, the sound of F1 engines reverberating around the streets and rock walls of Monaco is just something to behold... Go there one day.
