The RAT's Raving's INDEX

It nearly happened at Melbourne of course, Kubica made a mistake on his fast lap in qualifying and finished up 2nd on the grid to Hamilton. He locked up the front wheel this time at Sakhir but the effort was enough to tip the balance in his favour and put a grimace on Massa's face.

The word coming out of the BMW camp over the European winter was that while the car was a step forward it was difficult to set up and get some balance out of it. The F1.08 is more a revolution than an evolution compared to it's rivals and to step up to the Ferrari/McLaren game BMW had to take a gamble. I don't think they're any where near sorting it out to it's potential. I think when they start to understand it better the Beemer is going start really, really, really troubling the "other" two.

The two BMW drivers, Heidfeld in particular tend to almost hang back in practice 1-3 and then let the blue and white machine loose in qualifying. They're probably concentrating on race strategy and evaluating the different compounds of Bridgestone's available but I would like to see them up front early on, just to stir things up.

Round 4 in Spain at Barcelona is going to be be interesting because traditionally due to the nature of "Barca" it tends to filter out the not so good chassis and the cream floats to the top. Kubica slipped his F1.07 into fifth on the grid there last year and finished 4th in the race.... The car they have this year is much better and I'm counting on the two weeks before and after this weekend (Sakhir) in which BMW can further develop th F1.08. I begining to think their forcast that they will win their first Grand Prix this year is not so much of a fantasy after all.
