Alonso/Raikkonen/Ferrari
Kimi Raikkonen apparently loves driving F1 cars but despises the other side of an F1 drivers life. Not the glamour, you know the yachts, private jet, super model girlfriend (hey sounds just like my life?!) but the endless publicity appearances and having his every move under scrutiny. Admittedly the Fin has never looked very comfortable at any media appearance (okay I'm stretching the truth - he downright hates the post race interviews!) and rumours of him dropping the top flight of the sport altogether have been around for a few years.
The only thing is with Fernando Alonso (commonly referred to as the "Spanish W@nker" here on NNF1 after his numerous dummy spits last year) supposedly replacing him I know I'm going to struggle with my allegiance to Ferrari... Any F1 aficionado prepared to totally put bias out of the equation would put Alonso in the top three of the current crop of F1 drivers, he is after all the only driver apart from the trophy-less Mika Hakkinen to beat the Shu at the peak of his own game.
The other factor is of course Felipe Massa. Reliably written off as the number two to Kimi this season (before the season started) and berated after the first two GP's this year where he made a few mistakes - the jury was out as to whether he could drive without traction control but Massa has been the star of the season so far. Three poles to Kimi's one, out qualified Kimi 5-1 and equal on wins with Kimi and Hamilton. He was very unlucky not to win at Monaco after dominating in the tricky conditions in the first third of the race.
However in modern F1 what is rumoured and what actually transpires rarely converge so we wait patiently until 2010. My question is, what happens if the Renault F1 team emerge as the team to beat in the meantime? Will Fernando, the ever fickle Spanish W@nker still go to the Italian team?
