It's time to get serious!
August 26th - 6 GP's to go!
On the F1 front with Massa having just dominated the European GP around the port of Valancia it is looking increasingly likely that the Brazilian will spearhead the Ferrari challenge against McLaren's Lewis Hamilton.
That other title protagonist Kimi "the fastest driver in the world" Raikkonen has had a rubbish year and has been out raced and out qualified by Massa and just seems to be lacking a bit of oomfff...actually he has always seemed to lack oomfff but he usually drives an F1 car like a super star and that's not happening. Countryman Mika Hakkinen, a brilliant driver on his day, won his two titles and then lost all motivation and retired. Maybe the same thing is happening to Kimi? It happened to Jody Scheckter, it could happen to Kimster.
Hamilton's team mate Heikki Kovalainen despite winning his first GP in Hungary has just not been in the picture this season, very disappointing.
Massa has looked unbeatable in the last two GP's and with the circus heading to Spa in Belgium for the next round, Ferrari usually goes well there and are clear favorites even before the race begins. It will be interesting to watch Ferrari's strategy because if they want to beat McLaren/Hamilton they will soon have to put their efforts behind one driver. Kimi sits seven point behind Massa going into Spa.
Bob, aka Robert Kubica is still in with a chance at the title only 15 points behind Hamilton with 60 points still available and titles have been won from further back than that. Kimi I think was 17 points behind Lewis at one stage towards the end of last year. Realistically though I don't think BMW are going to bother unless they are much closer than that. Personally if I was them I would step up the development big time because the other two seems to be content making silly mistakes and they could slip through ala Alain Prost style past Mansell/Piquet a few years back...
Progressing to more important things, the NNF1 championship looks to have moved into similar territory as it's F1 counterpart. The top protagonists seem to be settled although as we've seen the positions can change dramatically over one weekend. If there was a Team championship Martin would have won it ages ago as he still has three of his teams in the top four. He's had four wins and four pole positions and the only reason he isn't a light year ahead of everybody else in the points is because he has spread his results around all his teams.
Roz has leapt into the spotlight in the past three gp's going from 25th to 5th with "Team Dragonfly" - and she's a girl!!! Proving that you need no talent to compete in NNF1 Thirston has moved two of his teams into the top ten and that is just from guessing (probably) his teams every Grand Prix. He's another that has hopped on board the Hamilton band wagon....Any new sensation for some people you know...Just like Sarah who is lying 7th - another girl!
Werner who has been around the top five almost all season took a fall to 12th after Valencia, hurt by Alonso's 1st lap retirement and Webber's poor performance. plenty of time for Werner to bounce back. Keith with "Scottish Terrier" was in fighting in the top ten not too long ago but has dropped the ball and is lying only 27th at the moment.
Colin is slowly gettuing the hang of it, moving his teams one step closer to the top each week. Brad and Jorg and Jon are still hanging around well into the top twenty, I think NNF1 is still winnable from there. I'm really surprised at the performance of the top three no (3) teams, namely Martin's "Team 4 Matthew", Roz's "Team Dragonfly" and Thirston's "Ixopo Racing". By contrast Deric's no 3 team is practically last...
Anyway NNF1'ers good luck for the last six races!
